Defeating Chittagong Vikings, Comilla Victorians registered victory in 14th match of BPL 2017. Batting first, Vikings scored 159 runs in 20 overs. Victorians successfully chased the target of 160 runs in 18.1 overs and improved its rank in BPL points table with by winning the match.
Comilla Victorians won the toss and opted to bowl first. Opener batsmen of Chittagong Vikings gave a better start to their batting inning. Luke Ronchi and Soumya Sarkar contributed majorly in cementing a good base of the team’s total score. Ronchi scored 31 runs in 19 balls while Sarkar added 30 runs in 32 balls.
After these two men lost their wickets in the mid of inning, the middle order of batting order showcased an average performance to end the inning. Dilshan Munaweera and Sikandar Raza batted next and scored mere double digit runs. Dilshan scored 19 runs in 25 balls while Raza hit 20 runs in 24 balls.
Misbah Ul Haque and Chris Jordan batted next after the dismissals of these players. Haque and Jordan scored 16 runs each. The team ended up scoring 159 runs in 20 overs with the loss of four wickets. Mohammad Nabi, Dwayne Bravo, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Saifuddin picked up one wicket each.
While chasing the target, Comilla Victorians had a decent start as the team lost the wicket of its key player – Tamim Iqbal. Iqbal scored 2 runs in 10 balls. Liton Das and Imrul Kayes played smart shots to remain stable on the field. Das hit 21 runs in 20 balls. After his dismissal in seventh over, Jos Buttler accompanied Kayes in the long run-chase.
Hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours, Kayes scored 45 runs in 36 balls. Buttler hit 3 fours and 2 sixes while scoring 44 runs in 31 balls. Partnership between the two cricketers helped their team reaching the target without any further damage to the batting lineup. After they lost their wickets in final phase of the game, Marlon Samuels and Mohammad Nabi gave finishing touch to the inning.
Hitting 2 sixes and 1 four, Samuels scored 17 runs in 8 balls. Speedy approach of the Caribbean cricketer helped Comilla Victorians in reaching the target quickly. Nabi remained not out at the other end of strike. Chittagong Vikings’ bowlers Dilshan Munaweera and Sunzamul Islam picked up two wickets each.
