Defeating Sylhet Sixers by 7 wickets, Rajshahi Kings registered victory in 17th match of ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. Sylhet Sixers batted first and scored 146 runs in 20 overs. Rajshahi Kings successfully chased the target of 147 runs in 17.3 overs and achieved second conquest in this domestic T20 cricket tournament of Bangladesh.
After winning the toss, Rajshahi Kings opted to bowl first. The decision seemed quite well when the bowlers in Rajshahi Kings team picked up the wickets of important batsmen of opposite team in the initial phase of match. Sylhet Sixers’ Upul Tharanga and Andre Fletcher commenced the first inning with decent start. This pair of most successful opener batsmen failed to score good runs in initial overs.
Sri Lankan cricketer Upul Tharanga scored 10 runs in 14 balls while his companion Andre Fletcher, who is popularly know for hitting huge shots, returned to pavilion without scoring a single run. After the dismissal of opener batsmen, another Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka came to bat next. Wicket-keeper-batsman Nurul Hasan accompanied the Sri Lankan player as a batsman at other end of strike.
Bangladeshi cricketer Nurul Hasan scored 10 runs in 11 balls. After Hasan lost his wicket in ninth over of the match, team’s captain Nasir Hossain replaced him as a next batsman. The right arm all rounder cricketer could not add much runs in team’s total score and lost his wicket after scoring 9 runs in 11 balls. Danushka Gunathilaka was still strong at the other end of strike.
Sabbir Rahman arrived into the ground to bat next after the skipper’s dismissal in 13th over. Rahman played crucial role in taking the team’s total score beyond three digit score. The young cricketer smashed 4 sixes and 1 four to score 41 runs in 26 balls. His companion, Danushka Gunathilaka too contributed majorly in hastening the overall score. Hitting 2 sixes and 4 fours, Gunathilaka scored 40 runs in 37 balls.
After the fall of Gunathilaka’s wicket in 14th over, English cricketer Team Bresnan rendered pivotal role in hiking the total score of his team. The right arm all rounder player hit 4 fours and 1 six to score 29 runs in 17 balls. With these efforts taken by the middle order of batting lineup, Sylhet Sixers managed to score a satisfactory target in the end.
Rajshahi Kings’ bowler Kesrick Williams picked up two wickets while Mohammad Sami, Mehidy Hasan, James Franklin and Samit Patel took one wicket each. Rajshahi Kings kicked off the run-chase with a good start. Opener batsmen Mominul Haque and Rony Talukdar score good runs to cement the strong base of team’s overall score. Hauqe hit 42 runs in 26 balls while Talukdar scored 24 runs in 22 balls.
After Talukdar lost his wicket in 9th over of the second inning, Samit Patel came to bat next. Patel failed to score huge runs and returned to pavilion after scoring 1 run in 2 balls. Bangladeshi cricketer Zakir Hasan replaced Patel as the next batsman and played significant role in chasing the total score. Hitting 3 sixes and 4 fours, Hasan scored 51 runs in 26 balls. Meanwhile Haque lost his wicket in 13th over of the match.
Mushfiqur Rahim batted next after the fall of Haque’s wicket. Rahim scored 25 runs in 20 overs. Hasan and Rahim remained not out till the end of the game and brought victory for their team. Zakir hit four to finish the game. By hitting that shot, the cricketer also completed his half century. He played the most important role in his team’s victory in this BPL T20 match.
