Rangpur Riders beat Chittagong Vikings in 28th match of BPL 2017

Rangpur Riders defeated Chittagong Vikings in 28th match of BPL 2017. The T20 match was played on 25th November 2017. While batting first, Chittagong’s team scored 176 runs in 20 overs. Rangpur Riders successfully chased the target of 177 runs. With the victory in this match, Riders jumped to fourth spot in BPL points table.

After winning the toss, Rangpur Riders opted to bat first. A good partnership could not establish between the opener batsmen – Luke Ronchi and Soumya Sarkar. Ronchi lost his wicket after scoring 11 runs in 5 balls. Anamul Haque replaced him as a next batsman, but failed to score double digit runs. After scoring 7 runs in 8 balls, Haque returned to pavilion.

Stiaan van Zyl came to bat next after Haque’s dismissal. Hitting 4 sixes and 3 fours, Zyle scored 68 runs in 40 balls and played a pivotal role in taking the team’s total score beyond triple digit figure. Soumya Sarkar hit 2 fours and 2 sixes to score 30 runs in 26 balls. After the fall of their wickets, next batsmen Sikandar Raza and Najibullah Zadran hiked the team’s overall score with their individual performance.

Raza scored 22 runs in 19 balls while Zadran hit 25 runs in 16 balls. Bottom order of batting lineup could not add much runs to the team’s total score. The first inning ended with Chittagong Vikings scoring 176 runs in 20 overs. The team lost its 7 wickets while setting up the target of 177 runs for the opponents. Rangpur Riders’ bowlers Lasith Malinga, Mashrafe Mortaza, Thisara Parera, Nahidul Islam and Rubel Hossain picked up one wicket each.

Rangpur Riders began the run-chase with a good run rate. Opener batsmen Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle gave a good start to the inning. McCullum hit 1 six and 1 four to score 15 runs in 20 balls. Left handed West Indian cricketer Chris Gayle, who is well known for hitting powerful shots, scored 33 runs in 25 balls. Gayle hit 1 four and 3 sixes.

After the fall of their wickets in early stage of the game, next batsmen Mashrafe Mortaza and Mohammad Mithun rendered crucial role boosting the overall run rate. Hitting 3 sixes and 4 fours, Mashrafe scored 42 runs in 17 balls. His companion Mithun scored 44 runs in 29 balls. After the two players lost their wickets in the mid of match, Sri Lankan cricketer Thisara Parera made significant contribution in his team’s victory.

The left arm all rounder cricketer hit 3 sixes and scored 28 runs in 14 balls. Remaining not out till the last ball, Parera impressed the audiences which his admirable performance. To win the game, Rangpur Riders required 4 runs in 1 ball. Parera hit a six on the last ball and brought victory for his team. Mashrafe Mortaza received ‘Player of the Match’ award for his excellent performance in today’s match.
