Sylhet Sixers register second consecutive victory in BPL 2017

Sylhet Sixers defeated Comilla Victorians in the third match of ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. After winning the first match on November 4, Sixers beat Victorians by 4 wickets in the thrilling T20 match. The game was played on 5th November 2017 at Sylhet International cricket stadium, which is situated in Sylhet.

After winning the toss, Sixers elected to bowl first. Liton Das and Imrul Kayes, opener batsmen of Comilla Victorians, performed good and gave a moderate start to their innings. Hitting 2 fours and 1 six, Das scored 21 runs in 19 balls while Imrul hit 12 runs in 11 balls. The opening pair returned to pavilion by the end of 6th over.

Caribbean cricketer Marlon Samuels came to bat next after the openers walked back to pavilion. The right arm batsman performed surprisingly well and smashed 60 runs in 47 balls. The West Indian cricketer hit 2 fours and 3 sixes to score those runs. Alok Kapali accompanied the Caribbean player with an individual score of 26 runs in 19 balls.

English cricketer Jos Buttler could score big runs and lost his wicket after scoring 2 runs in 5 balls. Bottom order of the batting lineup did not get much time to score huge runs and the team ended up scoring 145 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 6 wickets. Krishmar Santokie and Taijul Islam picked up two wickets each. Liam Plunkett and Nasir Hossain picked up one wicket each while Abul Hasan went wicketless in the game.

Sylhet Sixers has a good start to its run-chase. Left handed batsman Upul Tharanga and his Caribbean companion Andre Fletcher commenced the innings with scoring the runs to meet the required run rate. Hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes, Tharanga hit 51 runs in 40 balls. Fletcher too smashed five boundaries and two sixes to score 36 runs in 29 balls.

Though the team’s opener batsmen succeeded in giving a good start to the team’s journey towards victory, collapse of middle order of batting lineup became the major issue of concern for the team. Sabbir Rahman, skipper Nasir Hossain and Ross Whiteley lost their wickets at equal intervals of time and it seemed that team lost its control over the game.

Nurul Hasan, with his stormy performance, brought his team out of the intricate situation. Hasan hit 11 runs in 3 balls to end the game. The Bangladeshi cricketer hit 1 six and 1 four in the final over of the match. Thus, Sylhet Sixers registered victory in the consecutive game. The team earned 4 points from 2 victories and bagged first rank in BPL points table.
